arteriolar nephrosclerosis.
diabetic glomerulosclerosis (intercapillary glomerulosclerosis) a degenerative complication of diabetes mellitus in which there is glomerular mesangial expansion with either diffuse lesions or nodular (Kimmelstiel-Wilson) lesions; symptoms include albuminuria, nephrotic edema, hypertension, renal insufficiency, and retinopathy. The type with nodular lesions is also called Kimmelstiel-Wilson syndrome.
focal segmental glomerulosclerosis focal sclerosing lesions of the renal glomeruli, with proteinuria, hematuria, hypertension, and the nephrotic syndrome; it may be idiopathic or secondary to another condition. Called also focal glomerular sclerosis.

Rounded hyaline or laminated nodules in the periphery of the glomeruli with capillary basement membrane thickening and increased mesangial matrix occurring in long-standing diabetes, proteinuria, and ultimately renal failure.
