The
occlusal surface of the base is slightly convex, with a very prominent, wide, rectangular apical button.
The changes in C, O, Cl, F, Ca, P, and Ca/P ratio were evaluated on the
occlusal surface by EDS as atomic percentages (at%), which allows us to determine directly the present number of atoms per element, unlike the weight percentage (wt%), which varies per element.
The
occlusal surfaces show pitting, scratching and enamel chipping of antemortem origin, indicating the intense use of the teeth.
The left first permanent molar had been extracted previously as part of the orthodontic treatment plan and cavitation in the
occlusal surface was noted when the tooth was partially erupted.
Scientific analysis demonstrates that the restoration proposal closely reproduces the original
occlusal surface that is unique to that specific patient.
The teeth were worn down to create u-shaped grooves on the
occlusal surfaces. Similar dental wear patterns have been documented on individuals who habitually pulled fibrous material through their teeth while weaving or spinning.
These include reduction of the absolute size of the face, pronounced supraorbital tori, nonprojecting chins, relative megadontia, expansion of the
occlusal surface of the premolars, rotation of teeth within the maxilla and mandible, and dental agenesis.
The
occlusal surface of the tooth is opposite the end where the root is located (apical end).

occlusal surface (i.e., without an elevated cusp).
