vera gel is acemannan (a linear carbohydrate polymer containing acetylated
mannose).
The result of monosaccharide composition was considered by comparison to moving distance (Rf value) on TLC of standard sugars (glucose, galactose, sucrose, fructose,
mannose, rhamnose, arabinose and xylose).
Total non-starch polysaccharide, total arabinose, total xylose and total
mannose contents decreased by 46.27%, 45.80%, 41.71%, and 75.66%, respectively.
The GlcN[Ac.sub.2][Man.sub.8] core is recognised by Och1, an [alpha]1,6mannosyltransferase that adds the first
mannose residue of the N-linked glycan outer chain [44] (Figure 1).
The C-type lectin family includes the
mannose receptor,
mannose binding lectin, and ficolins and are active in immune-system functions such as pathogen recognition.
The study demonstrates that radiolabeled dextran cysteamine
mannose might prove a successful radiopharmaceutical for sentinel lymph node detection in future clinical applications.
In the Crustacean, studies carried out on the peneaid shrimp Sycionia ingentis (Pillai & Clark, 1990; Glas et al., 1996) showed that post-spawning changes occurred in oocyte envelopes due to the exocytose of vesicles similar to cortical granules, which reorganized the oocyte envelopes to form a covering (hatching envelope) which contained sugar moieties including
mannose, glucose, N-acetyl-glucosamine and sialic acid (Pillai & Clark, 1990).
But "in reality, almost all the
mannose is metabolized before ever reaching the urine," he said.

LP is activated by binding of
mannose binding lectin (MBL) or ficolin to pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) on the surface of microbes.
In vivo recognition of mannosylated proteins by hepatic
mannose receptors and mannan-binding protein.
The lamprey MBL binds to
mannose on the surface of the pathogen Aeromonas salmonicida.
