peptide containing two or more amino acids linked by a peptide bond; called dipeptide, tripeptide, etc., depending on the number of amino acids present.
vasoactive
[vas″o-ak´tiv] exerting an effect upon the caliber of blood vessels.
vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) a peptide hormone that, in addition to its vasoactive properties, stimulates intestinal secretion of water and electrolytes, inhibits gastric secretion, promotes glycogenesis, causes hyperglycemia, and stimulates production of pancreatic juice. See also
