A fermentation product of Fusidium coccineum, a parasitic fungus on the plant Veronica; inhibits protein synthesis and the accumulation of ppGpp.

fusidic acid

A steroid antibiotic used in the form of sodium fusidate against penicillin-resistant (beta-lactamase-producing) staphylococci. It has no value against streptococci and is usually given in conjunction with another antibiotic such as FLUCLOXACILLIN. Brand names are Fucidin and Fucithalmic.

fusidic acid

A product used as an antibiotic agent in solution 1%. It is synthesized as sodium fusidate from the microorganism Fusidium coccineum. It is effective against gram-positive bacteria. It is used in the treatment of bacterial blepharoconjunctivitis, especially staphylococcal infection.
