Since
Tonsillolith as a cause of GPN could not be found documented in literature, the patient was given counselling regarding tonsillectomy presuming that the
tonsillolith may be an underlying cause.

Pathological analysis confirmed the presence of a chronically inflamed tonsil and a large
tonsillolith (Figure 3).

Four weeks prior to the patient's presentation to our emergency department, she had undergone removal of a white plaque from her left tonsil, which had been suspected to represent a
tonsillolith. Postoperatively, she began to experience brief episodes of recurring local hemorrhage that would cease spontaneously.
Pathologic calcifications (e.g.,
tonsilloliths, lymph nodes, salivary gland stones) can also be recognized in terms of location and distinguished from possibly noteworthy calcifications, such as those occurring in carotid artery (27, 35).The 3D views by CBCT for evaluation of unerupted/impacted or supernumerary teeth and their association with vital structures has been indispensable (Figure 12 and Figure 13) (36, 37).
As other calcifications can appear in the same region of atheroma on panoramic radiograph, which may be anatomic (hyoid bone, cartilage triticeous, epiglottis, etc.) or pathologic (calcified lymph nodes,
tonsilloliths, phleboliths, etc.) (3), it is necessary another radiographic (AP) or exam for the diagnosis to be confirmed.
There are a few differential considerations for the imaging appearance of lingual osseous choristomas, including
tonsilloliths, amyloidoma, and extraskeletal osteosarcoma.
But they can become filled with stones, or
tonsilloliths, after repeated bouts of impaction and tonsil inflammation.

Tonsil stones, or
tonsilloliths, as they are also known, are actually lumps of calcified food, mucus and bacteria, explains Dr Gogiya.
Historically, treatment options for tonsil stones, or
tonsilloliths, have been limited.
