The antibacterial mechanism of carvacrol and
thymol against Escherichia coli.
In this study, newly developed EOM containing eugenol,
thymol, and cinnamaldehyde was evaluated for efficacy to improve rumen fermentation pattern by in vitro batch culture.
The results of this analysis revealed that
thymol was the most effective of the three phytochemicals used.
In addition to carvacrol and
thymol, there were other main compounds detected in the essential oil of L.
Thymol, 2-isopropyl-5-methylphenol, (purity >99%) was purchased from Sigma-AldrichChemie GmbH (Germany).
Relative
thymol content is presented as a function of the drying temperatures (p<0.01) in figure 4.
A second group of emulsions was prepared with a same ratio of
thymol and conjugates, but the oil phase contained 20% to 50%
thymol.
Sterilized 6 millimeter (mm) diameter absorbent paper disks were drenched with 30 |L of
thymol at 10.000 [micro]g/ml, and citronellol and linalool solution in their "pure" form (at 850,000 [micro]g/mL).
Thirty-three phenolic compounds, predominantly phenol, alkyl phenol,

This study focuses on the effects of the natural phenols
thymol (2-Isopropyl-5-methylphenol) and isoeugenol (4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-1-propenylbenzeneclove) which are the main components of essential oils including oregano, thyme, and clove respectively.

thymol, carvacrol, and eugenol, finding out the greater effectiveness of
thymol due to the greater stability of the
thymol radical; it is originated by the inductive effect of the isopropyl group located at the ortho position relative to the hydroxyl group.
MOEO chemical analysis showed that the two major compounds were
thymol (2.452 g/ml) and carvacrol (0.456 g/ml), whereas p-cymene, 1,8-cineole, and y-terpinen were in very low concentrations.
