Case-control study of
simian virus 40 and non-Hodgkin lymphoma in the United States.
Human cell transformation by
simian virus 40. In Vitro, 17: 1-19.
Does
simian virus 40 DNA integrate into cellular DNA during productive infection?
Diethyl pyrocarbonatetreated, RNase-free water (Biotecx Labs, Houston, Tex) was used as the negative control; the positive controls were DNA extracted from brain tissue from a patient with PML (for JCV), renal tissue from a patient with histologically proven BKV nephropathy (for BKV), and from an simian virus glia cell line culture (for
simian virus 40).
Characterization of human uroepithelial cells immortalized in vitro by
simian virus 40. Cancer Res 47:6066-6073 (1987).
Lack of serologic evidence for prevalent
simian virus 40 infection in humans.
This stain, which was also positive in the present case (not shown), is performed on paraffin-embedded tissue using an antibody against
simian virus 40, which cross-reacts with other polyomaviruses.[6] So far, only in situ hybridization allows BK virus-specific detection using a probe that does not cross-react with other members of the polyomaviruses.
The coat on
simian virus 40 contains a total of 360 proteins.
In every construct, the tag sequence included codes for the 11-aa KPPTPPPEPET epitope of
simian virus 40 (SV40) large T-antigen (31,32).
Furthermore, alterations of tumor suppressor genes p16/CDKN2A-[P14.sup.ARF] at 9p21 and NF2 at 22q12 are often encountered in MMs.[5]
Simian virus 40 may act in conjunction with asbestos, since approximately 60% of analyzed MMs show expression of
simian virus 40 at the molecular level.6 Additionally, the pathogenesis of asbestos-associated injury involves the participation of a number of cell types and is characterized by an early and persistent inflammatory response that involves the generation of oxidants, growth factors, chemokines, and cytokines.[7]
