, psych-psyche- Do not confuse this combining form with psychro-. Although p in the diphthong ps is normally silent only at the beginning of a word, by long tradition the p usually remains silent even within a word when it occurs in the combining form psych-, as in antipsychotic and neuropsychiatric.
