A hereditary condition (OMIM:609404) characterised by hypertension and proteinuria during pregnancy, and attributed to maternally expressed imprinted defective genes that act during the first trimester.

Molecular pathology
Defects of STOX1, which encodes a DNA-binding protein, cause pre-eclampsia/eclampsia type 4.
