* Negative appendicectomy was defined as appendicectomy after which histological examination of the specimen demonstrated periappendicitis, or there was no inflammation, tumour or infectious agent.
A total of 21 patients met the criteria for periappendicitis. The median age was 23 years (IQR 20-32).
The pathological examination of the appendix demonstrated acute appendicitis with periappendicitis. The patient experienced an uncomplicated postoperative hospital course and was discharged after 5 days.
Complications associated with appendicitis increase significantly when the appendix is perforated or gangrenous with periappendicitis [1].
