A term of art for an area in an A&E (casualty) department in the UK for patients who present with major illness (e.g., acute MI) or injury (e.g, motorcycle accident), and require clinical investigations (e.g., ECG, lab work) and advanced nursing care. Majors patients may be examined and cared for on a trolley.
