indirect transfusion
An obsolete term that dignifies the practice of transfusing blood that has been collected from a donor, “typed” (ABO- and Rh-typed), screened for the presence of antibodies or infectious agents, and “processed” as deemed appropriate prior to transfusion. This is in contrast to direct transfusion, the obsolete practice of connecting via cannulae, the vascular system of donor and recipient.Segen's Medical Dictionary. © 2012 Farlex, Inc.
