Mallory-Weiss tears usually present with
haematemesis as the predominant feature and patients with Boerhaave's syndrome tend to be haemodynamically unstable and septic, which is not the case with SOH.

The pain was associated with nausea and three discrete episodes of vomiting, with no associated
haematemesis. There was no reported history of fever or constipation.
