a liquid preparation of a vegetable drug, containing alcohol as a solvent or preservative, or both, of such strength that each milliliter contains the therapeutic constituents of 1 g of the standard drug it represents.

The United States Pharmacopeia described fluidextracts as liquid preparations containing alcohol as a solvent or preservative, or both, that are made so that 1 ml of the liquid contains the therapeutic constituents of 1 gram of the standard material used to make it.
Fluidextracts were recognized as medicines that were easy to make, use and transport.
Fluidextracts represent a 1:1 ratio of herb to extract with traditional tinctures typically found in ratios of 1:5 or 1:10.
