On microscopy ceruminous adenomas are composed of well differentiated tubular, ductal, or papillary structures reminiscent of ceruminous glands. Two distinct cell layers of inner luminal secretory cells that contain ceroid pigment and display apical secretion by decapitation and outer or basal myoepithelial cells are easily identified.
KEYMESSAGES: Ceruminous adenomas are rare benign glandular tumor of external auditory canal of ceruminous gland origin.
Ceruminous gland carcinomas: A clinicopathologic and immunophenotypic study of 17 cases.
They separated the tumors into 4 types: (1) ceruminous gland adenocarcinoma, (2) ceruminous adenoma, (3) adenoid cystic carcinoma, and (4) pleomorphic adenoma.
Adenoid cystic carcinomas of the ceruminous gland (ACCCGs) are morphologically similar to the more commonly encountered salivary gland tumors.
Based on the finding, tumor was confirmed as
ceruminous gland adenoma.
Cerumen refers only to the secretory product of the
ceruminous glands in the external auditory canal, and it is just one component of earwax.
