stated that in the absence of the arcuate artery, the LTA and branches of the plantar
arterial arch supply the 2nd to 4th metatarsal spaces (Table II).
Traverses the superficial layer of the flexor retinaculum and continues across the palm as the superficial palmar
arterial arch.
Andermahr and co-workers dissection study of 10 and 13 cadavers verified the standard course of the great
arterial arch. Lateral impaction of the fragments, inappropriate operative incision and fracture immobilization with lateral splint (that may lead to aseptic necrosis of the fracture fragments) can result in lateral calcaneal artery injury [22, 23] Borrelli et al in a study of 24 cadavers published similar results and emphasized the importance of no touch technique and
arterial arch preserving when operative incision were performed.
Superficial Palmar Arch: This
arterial arch is variable.
The archus plantaris (Schuenke et al., 2010), deep plantar arch (Ozer et al., 2005; Gabrielli et al, 2001), or more commonly referred to as the plantar
arterial arch since it is formed from two plantar arteries (Feneis & Dauber, 2000), is the main source of arterial supply to the foot (Standring, 2009).
But in such cases, the absorption occurs along the fourth
arterial arch and the embryonic right aorta becomes the right subclavian artery.
