The framework then allowed the immunohistochemical diagnosis of metastatic
amelanotic melanoma. On April 2009 the patient underwent further excision of four nodes of which only one had metastases.

An
amelanotic melanoma appears similar to lymphoma, squamous cell carcinoma or other non-pigmented conditions, such as pyogenic granuloma, a conjunctival haematoma, a foreign body or argyrosis.

amelanotic melanoma may be the presence of a macular rim or spot of tan, gray, or brown pigmentation at the periphery of the lesion," Ms.
In this series, OLN and one case of
amelanotic melanoma were clinically diagnosed as polyps.

Melanoma is frequently pigmented and an
amelanotic melanoma must be distinguished from other simulating lesions.
(In fact, even in the absence of pigment, any "red and white" lesion could be an
amelanotic melanoma.) However, when added to other findings, such as a firm, pearly papule, the finding increases the likelihood of BCC.
A case of a secondary
amelanotic melanoma of the epiglottis was reported by Ikeda et al in 1991.
The remaining four lesions included one
amelanotic melanoma and three with none or only one of the ABC criteria.
The tumour is uniformly brown or bluish black, although it can present as grey, purple or in red shades.[9] In an
amelanotic melanoma, the pigment is absent.
Such cases of
amelanotic melanoma in situ lack classical morphologic features and may thus easily elude clinical diagnosis.
