soil

the uppermost layer of the earth's crust that supports the majority of terrestrial plant life together with many animals and microorganisms. Soil derives from the erosion of the rock strata and contains minerals and variable amounts of organic material derived from organisms which live or have lived upon it. Soils are affected by climate, living organisms, parent rock, relief, groundwater and age, and usually contain various ‘horizons’, the succession of which is called the ‘soil profile’. MULL soils tend to be alkaline and ‘Mor’ soils acid. Soils may be heavy clay, loam (sand and clay), peaty (large amounts of dead plant material), chalky light or sandy

Sixteen days after infestation (11 Mar 2007), 6 plants in each soil type (marl soil or potting medium) were flooded by placing each plant container into a larger 19-L plastic container filled with tap water with the water level maintained 10 cm above the soil surface (24 cm total depth).
Both groundnut cultivars did not nodulate in this soil type (Fig.
However, parameters such as AM fungi, Azotobacter, rock phosphates and soil type have significant influence on the plant growth performance and barbaloin yield.
Statistical analysis.--We used mixed-model analyses of variance (PROC MIXED, SAS, 2003) to determine the effects of species, soil type and water regime on the dependent variables: days to first germination, final % germination, shoot height, total biomass and root/shoot ratio.
Five soils, representing four important soil types in Estonia, Rendzic Leptosol (Rendzinas), Podzol (Sod-podzolic), Podzoluvisol (Brown pseudopodzolic), and Podzolic Gleysols (Gley-podzols), were investigated (Table 1).
Repeat the steps below for each soil type. Treat each soil the same way.
To narrow his search, Fisher chose 140 sites--each with a unique combination of soil type and rainfall--to chase down these large ant colonies.
Moisture: the moisture of the soil can be affected by local annual rainfall, time of year, soil type and the orientation of garden.
Additionally, OLS determines soil type and moisture content to estimate the strength of the area.
An example of this is a chart of yield points by soil type. The goal of this chart would be to calculate the average yield for each soil type.
