A preparation of water soluble opium alkaloids, including 50% anhydrous morphine.

papaveretum

A mixture of purified opium alkaloids. Papaveretum has the same painkilling and narcotic properties as MORPHINE and is mainly used for surgical premedication. Also known as Omnopon. A brand name of the drug combined with ASPIRIN and PAPAVERETUM is Aspav. The drug should not be confused with PAPAVERINE.

(7) Several pharmacologic agents including hyoscine butyl bromide (buscopan), glucagon, nitrates, calcium channel blockers, and papaveretum and nonmedicinal agents such as water, effervescent crystals, papain and fresh pineapple juice have been used in the treatment of esophageal food impaction with variable success rate.
Wheal diameters to four different concentrations of morphine, pethidine and papaveretum were similar in both sensitive and control subjects, clearly demonstrating that skin testing was not of diagnostic value.
In the late 1980s when the reaction occurred, papaveretum contained 47.5 to 52.5% morphine, 2.5 to 5.0% codeine, 16.0 to 20.0% narcotine (noscapine) and 2.5 to 7.0% papaverine (104).
