opiates

Any narcotic drugs containing opium or an opium derivative or having opium-like properties, used to relieve severe pain associated with anxiety. Examples are morphine (Oramorph, Sevredol, Morcap SR, Morphgesic SR, MST Continus, MXL), diamorphine, methadone (Physeptone), fentanyl (Sublimaze), buprenorphine (Temgesic, Transtec), dihydrocodeine (DF118 Forte, DHC Continus), codeine (Galcodine), pholcodine (Galenphol), meptazinol (Meptid), loperamide (Norimode), nalbuphine (Nubain), oxycodone (Oxynorm), hydromorphone (Palladone), papaveretum and pethidine.

Opiates

Analgesic, pain killing drugs, such as heroin and morphine that depress the central nervous system.
