GGH
A gene on chromosome 8q12.3 that encodes gamma-glutamyl hydrolase, which progressively removes gamma-glutamyl residues from pteroyl poly-gamma-glutamate to yield pteroyl-alpha-glutamate (folic acid) and free glutamate. GGH may play a key role in ensuring the bioavailability of dietary pteroylpolyglutamates and in the metabolism of pteroylpolyglutamates and antifolates.Segen's Medical Dictionary. © 2012 Farlex, Inc.
