In 2008, after a review of available literature, the AAP issued a report saying there was no convincing evidence that delaying
allergenic food introduction prevented food allergies, but no specific guidance as to when
allergenic food should be introduced was mentioned.
Glutenin
allergenic proteins were extracted from the residue obtained after third centrifugation by using wheat extraction buffer (50% Isopropanol: 9ml, Tris-Base: 0.06g, DTT 1%: 100ul).
To isolation the
allergenic protein, the protein band in a raw extract was transferred to a PVDF membrane from SDS-PAGE gel and subsequently, subjected to immunoblotting.
Twenty-three different-coloured tomato varieties and 20 strawberry varieties of different sizes and shapes were examined to analyze the genetic factor for the expression of the
allergenic protein in the fruits.
Since late 2012, it became increasingly frequent to find patients that exhibited positive skin responses to very weak
allergenic concentration, like the 5th and even to the 6th dilutions.
During product development, manufacturers should consider whether any non-functional or non-characterizing
allergenic substances can be replaced with alternative substances, Trautman says.
The egg yolk contains different
allergenic proteins than the egg white--apovitellenins I, apovitellenins VI and phosvitin.
Though the FDA said it would label any genetically engineered foods containing genes from common
allergenic organisms, the agency fell well short of requiring across-the-board labeling, leaving The New England Journal of Medicine editors to ask what protection consumers would have against genes from organisms that have never before been part of the human diet and that might be potential allergens.
However, a "proteinaceous substance" derived from a major food allergen is not subject to these labeling requirements if FDA determines that the substance is not
allergenic. Spices, flavorings, colorings and incidental additives containing a major food allergen are subject to the new requirements, and will also be covered by additional regulations to be issued for the disclosure of a food allergen other than a major allergen.
According to EFSA experts, a review of the scientific evidence regarding the
allergenic potential of each of the ingredients listed in the Annex has confirmed that all have the potential to cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
The serum test would still be optimal for screening genes from known
allergenic sources, Taylor says.
"Understanding the
allergenic properties of shrimp as affected by the cooking process is critical for shrimp allergic individuals," lead researcher Guang Ming Liu said.
