* Fixed self-cure dentures severely effect abutment teeth and periodontium leading to periodontal pocket formation, gingival recession, and interdental bone loss tooth mobility leading to early
abutment tooth loss.
Also, without a firm occlusal contact, the opposing tooth that occludes into the
abutment tooth may extrude into the
abutment tooth and the abutment may also extrude into the opposing tooth.
According to their relationship to the
abutment tooth attachments are classified as extracoronal and intracoronal.
During clasp selection, tooth which is adjacent and farthest from the defect should be selected as
abutment tooth. Retentive undercut is usually present on buccal surface, depending upon the type of defect, linear, tri- podal or quadrilateral designs can be employed.
In addition to periapical radiograph, bleeding on probing, periodontal pocket depth and clinical attachment loss were measured at six sites of each
abutment tooth with a UNC-12 calibrated probe to assess the status of periodontal disease.
The purpose of the study was to com- pare the accuracy of inter occlusal records made in the terminal
abutment tooth by two methods of recording technique, with centric stop and without centric stop using polyvinylsiloxane as the recording material.
