Alopecurus is common on zoogenic and cryogenic disturbances, such as bird cliffs, animal burrows, and the active margins of ice-wedge polygons, and has long been associated with arctic archaeological sites (Porsild, 1932; Polunin, 1948; Fredskild, 1961).
