1. zone.
zona fascicula´ta the thick middle layer of the adrenal gland.
zona glomerulo´sa the outermost layer of the adrenal cortex.
zona ophthal´mica herpetic infection of the cornea.
zona pellu´cida
1. the transparent, noncellular, secreted layer surrounding an ovum.

the inner layer of the cortex of the adrenal gland, where the cell cords anastomose in a netlike fashion.

zona reticularis

the innermost part of the adrenal cortex, which borders on the adrenal medulla part of the gland. It acts in consort with the zona fasciculata in producing various sex hormones and glucocorticoids.
