venetian blind artefact

venetian blind artefact

A term of art referring to the parallel ridging, cracking and separation of pathology specimens cut with a microtome due to tissue brittleness, which may occur with alcohol fixation. While it is very common in frozen sections of the breast and lymphoid tissue, the artefact also occurs in paraffin-embedded tissue.
