Clinical indications for vaginal dilator use: Cases from practice
After daily use of the vaginal dilator for 4 months, with progressed introduction of graduated sizes (small, medium, medium+, large), she was able to accommodate intravaginal intercourse with her partner.
After 2 months of treatment, she was taught in the office to use a size extra small vaginal dilator. She was delighted that use did not result in pain.
In addition, it was determined through the questionnaire if the women were complying with the recommendation of vaginal dilation by using vaginal dilators and/or having intercourse three times or more a week.
All women were offered "standard" interventions for their dyspareunia, including the use of vaginal dilators twice daily for 2 years, as well as the use of vaginal lubricants.
Radiation oncologists do address the need for vaginal dilators or daily intercourse to maintain depth and caliber of the vagina during and after therapy, but they are less likely to prepare a patient for menopausal symptoms.
The use of vaginal dilators or topical estrogen therapy is individualized.
The use of vaginal dilators along with estrogen or lubricant therapy is an often-forgotten adjunct to therapy for dyspareunia caused by VVA (FIGURE 4).
(5) Construction of a neovagina, using vaginal dilators (the first-line strategy) or surgical placement of split-thickness skin graft or artificial skin (Abbe-McIndoe procedure), is the treatment.
First-line therapy for vaginal agenesis is creation of a neovagina using vaginal dilators
