2] is the competitive effect of a uredinium of Strain 2 on urediniospore production by Strain 1, relative to the effect of a uredinium of Strain 1 on Strain 1 urediniospore production.
The monomolecular equation proved to be appropriate for describing the decreasing rate of urediniospore production per uredinium with increasing uredinial density in the single-strain and mixed-strain treatments [ILLUSTRATION FOR FIGURE 2 AND 4 OMITTED].
In sites available to a particular strain, at most one infection of that strain can develop to the stage of forming a uredinium.
The probability that a site will develop a uredinium is equivalent to the probability that a site will have at least one infection, which equals 1 - [[1 - (E/K)].
