adjective Referring to a movement–eg, a motor tic, that relieves an unpleasant sensation; such movement may be  perceived by a Pt as voluntary, and is often, but not always, suppressible which, unlike other hyperkinetic movement disorders, can be suppressed for only very short durations, if at all
