An erythromycin-like macrolide antibiotic used to treat severe asthma, by an unknown mechanism unrelated to antimicrobial activity Adverse effects Severe liver dysfunction–jaundice develops in 4%; inhibits carbamazepine, cisapramide, terfenadine, theophylline, etc, metabolism by CYP3A4 Indications Reserved for Pts requiring corticosteroids.
