trapped lung

A sequestered segment of lung in empyema, where part of a bacterially infected lobe and visceral pleura 'fix' the affected lung in a partially collapsed position. Cf Folded lung, Scimitar syndrome, Sequestration complex.

trapped lung

Lung that cannot expand and contract during respiration because it is restricted by the visceral pleura.
