lymphatic pump

An osteopathic technique in which the rib cage and thoracic spine are manipulated with the intent of improving the lymphatic circulation to the chest; in this technique, the osteopath pushes upward on the anterior chest wall or pulls the posterior chest wall in an anterosuperior direction.

thoracic pump

The negative pressure in the chest during inspiration that pulls venous blood into the vena cava and right side of the heart so that it can circulate to the lungs.
