third diabetic syndromeA form of DM described in young black Pts which may differ from type 1 DM, as
1. 30-40% have HLA-DR3 or HLA-DR4 antigen, in contrast to whites, 95% of whom express HLA-DR3 or -DR4.
2. 40% have islet cell antibodies, versus 70-80% of whites.
3. Most Pts are well controlled with diet or oral anti-diabetics,.
4. AD inheritance pattern.
