/suc·ci·nate-semi·al·de·hyde de·hy·dro·gen·ase/ (sem″e-al´dĕ-hīd de-hi´dro-jen-ās″) an oxidoreductase catalyzing the final step in γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) inactivation; deficiency (succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase deficiency) causes increased levels of GABA and γ-hydroxybutyric acid in urine, plasma, and cerebrospinal fluid, mental retardation, hypotonia, and ataxia.
