A genus of vines of east Africa (family Apocynaceae); the dried ripe seeds of Strophanthus kombe or Strophanthus hispidus contain the cardiac glycoside strophanthin and were used as an arrow poison; the seeds of Strophanthus gratus are the botanic source of ouabain.
