A glycoside or mixture of glycosides from Strophanthus kombe; an obsolete cardiac tonic, like ouabain (G-strophanthin); extremely toxic.

A toxic glycoside or mixture of glycosides, such as ouabain, obtained from the seeds of certain African plants of the genera Strophanthus and Acokanthera, formerly used as a cardiac stimulant.

strophanthin, K-strophanthin

a cardiac glycoside, obtained from the plant Strophanthus kombé. Has actions similar to ouabain, which is obtained from S. gratus, and scillerin A, obtained from Urginea maritima.
