stromal breakdown

A term of art referring to a benign histopathological finding on endometrial curettage, which consists of condensed stromal cells and compact nests of hyperchromatic nuclei with little or no cytoplasm, often associated with fragmented clusters of endometrial glands. Stromal breakdown is a nonspecific histologic feature of dysfunctional uterine bleeding.
