1. a thin, narrow, comparatively long piece of material.
2. to press the contents from a canal, such as the urethra or a blood vessel, by running the finger along it.
3. to excise lengths of large veins and incompetent tributaries after subcutaneous dissection.
4. to remove tooth structure or restorative material from the mesial or distal surfaces of teeth, utilizing abrasive strips; usually done to alleviate crowding.
