circular layer of muscle coat of small intestine[TA]
the inner layer of smooth (involuntary) muscle of the muscle coat (muscularis externa) of the small intestine in which the muscle fibers encircle the lumen; it is claimed by some investigators that the orientation of the muscle fibers is a tight spiral or helix rather than being truly circular.
Synonym(s): stratum circulare tunicae muscularis intestini tenuis [TA], short pitch helicoidal layer ☆ , stratum helicoidale brevis gradus ☆
