sterile vaginal exam,
A bimanual examination of the vagina, cervix, adnexa, and fetus during labor. It is used to determine the progress of labor, e.g., the position of the fetus, its engagement, and the dilation of the cervix, while minimizing the risk of introducing harmful bacteria.
