spokes-and-hub design

spokes-and-hub design

A managed network design for a diagnostic laboratory in the UK, in which the central “hub” corresponds to a teaching hospital’s lab, which provides both routine diagnostics and specialised services. The “spokes” correspond to the peripheral labs in outer sector hospitals which can perform services such as frozen sections, clinical chemistry and cross matching; some tests are outsourced based on logistics and economy-of-scale decisions.
