specialist registrar

A junior doctor in training under the pre-2006 system who was tracked to become a consultant. Pre-2006 SpRs and (second-year) SHOs are now merged into a single-specialty registrar (StR) grade, and their years of training known as ST1, ST2, ST3, etc. At the successful completion of the training, the doctor is awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). Details of training are listed in the “Gold Guide” (formally, The Guide to Postgraduate Specialty Training), which builds on and replaces the “Orange Book” (formally, The Guide to Specialist Registrar Training) for doctors who entered specialty training programmes after 2006.
