Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impaired
social interaction, impaired verbal and non-verbal communication, and restricted and repetitive behavior.
Autistic spectrum disorders are deemed to be lifelong developmental disabilities in
social interaction, impaired communication, restricted and repetitive interests and behaviours, and sensory sensitivities.
Autism affects around one in 150 births and is characterized by abnormal
social interaction, impaired communication and repetitive behaviours.
Across Wales it is believed there are more than 27,000 people with an ASD - a group of disorders with similar features, including problems with
social interaction, impaired language and communication skills and unusual patterns of thought and physical behaviour.
