smouldering myeloma

A slowly progressive myeloma with an average survival of 10 years, which contrasts with untreated (6-month survival) and treated (3- to 5-year survival) myelomas. Indolent myeloma comprises 5% of myelomas and is often detected by routine lab tests for unrelated reasons; most patients have stage-I disease.
