A clustering of multiple small, contiguous and indurated lymph nodes (fancifully likened to shot from a shotgun cartridge), which is palpable in the inguinal, cervical and other regions in children with viral infections; shotty lymphadenopathy in adults is more commonly associated with metastatic cancer or, rarely, syphilis.
