sham rage an outburst of motor activity resembling the outward manifestations of fear and anger, occurring in decorticated animals and in certain pathologic conditions in humans.

sham rage

a quasiemotional state, characterized by manifestations of fear and anger on trifling provocation; produced in animals by the removal of the cerebral cortex (decortication).
