2. A process that behaves as a self-regulatory device; for example, the reaction of the pupil to light.

a control system in which feedback is used to correct errors in another system. A biological example is the mechanism that controls the size of the pupil of the eye as the intensity of light changes.

For example, when the blood glucose level rises in the normal person, the pancreas responds by releasing insulin, which enables cells to take in and metabolize glucose.
