seminiferous tubulescoiled tubules in which SPERMATOGENESIS takes place in the testes of male vertebrates. They are made up of germinal epithelium and hundreds are present in each testis. The germ epithelium proliferates, forms spermatogonia and grows into spermatocytes which give rise to spermatids by GAMETOGENESIS. The spermatids mature to spermatozoa embedded in nutritive SERTOLI CELLS.
