selectin

Any of a group of cell surface molecules that influence the attachment and movement of white blood cells to other cells and to the lining of blood vessels, e.g., in inflammatory diseases and conditions.

P-selectins

An adhesion receptor molecule for white blood cells that functions during inflammation and tissue repair. Binding with P-selectin glycoprotein ligand 1, it controls the flow of white blood cells and their adhesion to blood vessel walls. It is viewed as a key factor in thrombosis.

selectin

one of a group of cell adhesion membrane GLYCOPROTEIN molecules that binds to carbohydrates via a LECTIN-like DOMAIN. Selectins mediate the binding of LEUKOCYTES to the vascular ENDOTHELIUM. Three selectins have been identified E-, L-and P- selectin.
